As with all of creation, the tree is an interesting life form with its distinct and functional parts.
When a seed is planted and it decays, roots come out first and start taking position in the soil before the stem and leaves begin to sprout above the soil. This is significant since the roots serve as an anchor to the plant as well as a passage through which the plant gets water and nutrients from the soil. When there's a heavy wind that tosses the tree around, it stays in place because it is rooted. The outward results; the beautiful greenery, the flowers and the fruits that we see on trees are as a result of the roots downwards.
So it follows that without roots there would be no nutrients for the plant, no stability, and invariably no growth.
As it is with trees, so it is with life. For every real/true result that exists and that lasts, there is a process that precedes the result — a process of taking root.
Unfortunately, we just want the results; the praises, the wealth, the limelight, without any real roots. Imagine a tree without roots in the face of a stormy wind. You imagine it falling, right?
To grow upwards, you must first take root downwards.
Taking root may be messy. I mean, roots form in the ground, all that dirt, sometimes laden with decaying organic matter. This may seem unpleasant, but it all comes together to result in growth; to result in "fruits that last".
In your spiritual walk;
In your career;
In your relationships or whatever meaningful pursuit;
Take root.
Be rooted in knowledge required to take you to the next level. Learn, unlearn, relearn. Practice, make mistakes, master it. Build character. Pause and Reset when needed.
In your spiritual journey, take root and keep taking root daily in Christ. The deeper, the better. Be so rooted in Christ that when the storms of life hit, no matter how much it tosses your leaves and branches around, you remain anchored in position. Those who trust in the Lord are like mount Zion, their feet cannot be moved (Psalm 125: 1).
If you let it, the cares and worries of the world could make you lust after results so much so that you attempt to build on the surface without any roots. In times of crisis, your lack of roots will shine through. In times when the strength of your character is tested, you may fail woefully.
Whatever good results that you seek, take root. It may seem unpleasant. Others may toss their results in your face and you may start to feel behind. Take time to take root.
To grow upwards, take root downwards.

Have a lovely week, my dears.
